"Year 2000 Crisis:
A Springboard to Long Term Process Improvements"
PROGRAMME SERIES
There is indeed a
silver lining in the year 2000 cloud. Organizations have been provided budgets, tools and
resources which, under any other circumstances, might have never been successfully
justified. Management has agreed to forestall many new demands in favour of dedicating
resources to the year 2000 dilemma. Under what other circumstances has management
willingly held back so many requirements?
This presentation will explore the unique opportunities that exist
in a typical year 2000 project to instill new techniques, approaches and attitudes in your
organisation. IT shops will have to process mountains of code, do tons of testing, piles
of migrations, and constantly manage ongoing efforts towards a truly immovable deadline.
For many, this is their first real "do or die" project. Will you address your
year 2000 project with a burst of heroic measures impossible to repeat and sustain, or
will this be the pivot point where you improve your processes, train your staff and refine
techniques. The latter will not only enable you to meet the year 2000 challenge more
successfully but set the foundation for all future projects. You chose, this opportunity
only comes around every thousand years.
