Ottawa SPIN: Inaugural Meeting

The Inaugural Meeting
of the Ottawa SPIN

The inaugural meeting was held the evening of June 13, 1996 at the Citadel Inn. We had 137 registrations, a standing-room-only crowd of 122, representing over 50 companies, including some from Toronto and Montreal.

David Constant gave a brief introduction to SPINs in general and the mission of the Ottawa SPIN in particular. Then two speakers from the same division of Nortel Technologies gave complementary views of software process improvement in an organization that has been pursuing this for some time. Don Joyce gave a presentation on the program-level view and Norman Rajala followed with the project-level view. Don and Norm then took questions from the audience, moderated by Julia Ginley.

Claude Laporte, president of the Montreal SPIN, gave a presentation on the experience of that SPIN and the detailed topics of the upcoming VISION96 conference to be held in Montreal in October. David Constant closed with some brief remarks and a request for feedback and participation in on-going SPIN actvities. The audience and speakers then adjourned for a well-attended and productive wine-and-cheese reception, which provided opportunities for further questions and networking.
